Recently I have been running sketchbook workshops at Chester Cathedral. Working with families, I have been encouraging participants to draw regularly to improve their wellbeing. Simple creative activities can encourage relaxation and mindfulness.
We have been using A6 Seawhite Cupcycling Sketchbooks - the perfect size for keeping with you in a pocket or bag!
Sketchbooks can be used to record thoughts, ideas, memories or feelings, and they can include drawings, words and photographs. You can even add tickets and postcards to remind you of days out or holidays.
Drawing for a short time every day will improve your drawing and observational skills and, in turn, increase your confidence and creativity! You can choose anything as a subject to draw - flowers, buildings, people, toys or even food. Experiment and don't be afraid to make mistakes - your sketchbook is the perfect place to try out new ideas and develop your skills. Explore materials you have at home - biros are great for drawing with! You might also want to try adding colour using coloured pencil or watercolours. It is a good idea to date each drawing so you can see how your work develops over time.
Most importantly, have fun!
